Pattern & Scheme of SSC Combined Graduate Level Exam

Exam Pattern


This Exam will be conducted in total four stages or tiers as follows:

In first phase Tier-I exam will be conducted which is Computer Based Examination. In second phase Tier -II exam and it will also be a Computer Based Examination. The third phase Tier -III will be a Pen and Paper Mode (Written/Descriptive Type Paper) and Tier-IV is a Computer Proficiency Test or Skill Test (wherever applicable) / Document Verification.

Note: The Tier-I Examination is a qualifying paper. Interview component has been dispensed with. There will, therefore, be no interview.

Negative Marking: 0.50 for each wrong answer in Tier-I and 0.25 in Tier-II for each wrong answer in paper II (English Language & Comprehension) of Tier-II and 0.50 for each wrong answer in Paper-I, Paper III and Paper IV of Tier II.


Descriptive Paper of English/Hindi as Tier-III

Pen and Paper (Written) Descriptive Paper in English/Hindi (writing of Essays/Precis/Letter/Applications etc. Total Marks = 100
  • Total 60 Minutes = For Visually Handicapped (VH)
  • Total 80 Minutes = For Candidates suffering from Cerebral Palsy.
  • The merit will be prepared on overall performance in Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III.
  • Remember that you need to qualify all the tiers i.e Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III separately and also there will be no sectional cut-off. Computer Proficiency Test/ Skill Test (wherever applicable)/ Document Verification will also be conducted as per the provisions of the notice of examination.
